Rita Reutiliza: Caixas para Maquilhagem e Acessórios

Tenho um problema: se não tenho as coisas à vista e com fácil acesso, esqueço-me que elas existem.

E quando se tem tantos batons à escolha (a colecção poderá ou não ter aumentado desde estas fotos...), convém que saiba exactamente qual a oferta disponível para melhor escolher.

Foi por isso que peguei nestas caixinhas e lhes decidi dar um visual um bocadinho mais especial.

Para ser sincera, já não me lembro o que continham estas caixas originalmente.

Costumo guardar caixas com uma boa estrutura, pois acabo sempre por usá-las para guardar coisas pequenas.

I have an issue: if I don't keep my stuff in sight and easily accessible, I forget it's there.

And when you have such a collection of lipsticks (the number may or may not have increased since these photos were taken...), I could use knowing what's available so I can better choose.

That's why I took these little boxes and decided to give them a more special look.

To be honest, I can't recall what came in these boxes originally.

I usually keep small boxes with a good structure, because I always end up using them to keep tiny objects.

Peguei em revistas que cá tinha em casa e escolhi as páginas que mais gostava - normalmente são os editoriais de moda ou acessórios que mais me atraem (costumava usá-los para fazer carteiras a partir de pacotes de sumo há muito tempo).

Cortei à medida do fundo e dos lados de cada caixa, colei e ficou pronto!

Por fora as caixas são simplesmente brancas, mas a minha ideia era mesmo criar uma surpresa no interior delas.

Aqui e ali vejo bocadinhos de cor a espreitar e piada é mesmo essa.
Se colocar as caixas de lado, o fundo nota-se mais por detrás dos batons e é quase como que uma paisagem, ou até um pequeno quadro.

I took some old magazines I had and chose my favourite pages - usually I go for the fashion or accessories editorials (I used to cut them up and use them to make wallets out of juice boxes a long time ago).

I cut the pages the same size as the bottom and the sides of each box, glued them and it was done!

On the outside, the boxes are plain white, but my idea was to create a surprise on the inside.
Here and there I see bits of colour peeking out and that's what's fun about it.
If I use the boxes on their sides, on the other hand, the bottom looks almost like a scenery, or even a small painting.

Da próxima vez que guardarem uma caixinha (sei que não sou a única!), experimentem dar-lhe um toque deste género.
Com tecido também seria uma óptima opção.

Next time you keep a little box like these (I know I'm not alone in this!), try and spice them up in a similar way.
It would also be a great option to use fabric.

Christmas Gits 2014: Part 1

Já se passaram quase 2 meses desde o Natal (para onde voa o tempo?!), mas não queria deixar de vos mostrar algumas das coisas que fiz para oferecer à família e aos amigos.
Já andava com vontade de fazer este projecto há algum tempo e pareceu-me uma prenda óptima.
E a verdade é que estes sabonetes caseiros foram a prenda mais popular do Natal passado.

Foram muito fáceis e rápidos de fazer.
Encomendei as bases e os óleos essenciais na net e usei formas para cupcakes, tartes e chocolates.
Pena que os que foram feitos com as formas de chocolate tenham ficado tão fofinhos, porque toda a gente me diz que não dá vontade nenhuma de usar... Conseguem adivinhar quais foram?



It's been almost 2 months since Christmas (where does time fly?!), but I didn't want to keep from showing you some of the things I made to offer as presents for my family and friends.
I'd been wanting to have a go at making this project for a while and it seemed to be a great idea for a gift.
And truth be told: these handmade soaps were the most popular gift from last Christmas.

These were really easy and quick to make.
I ordered the bases and oils online and used cupcake, pie and chocolate molds.
Too bad the ones I used the chocolate molds for turned out so cute, because everyone keeps telling me they don't want to use them... Can you guess which ones I'm talking about?

Comprei base de glicerina e base de leite de cabra e utilizei vários óleos: hortelã, laranja, limão, lavanda...

Para além dos óleos essenciais, também utilizei ingredientes frescos.

As misturas que fiz foram à base de citrinos: usei limão (a raspa), baunilha (as sementes), laranja (também só a raspa) e folhas de hortelã nos que fiz com a base de glicerina.

O ingrediente comum foram as sementes de papoila, para os tornar exfoliantes.

I got glycerine and goat milk bases and used a lot of different oils: peppermint, orange, lemon, lavender...

Besides the essential oils, I also used fresh ingredients.

The combinations I made were all citrus based: I used lemon (the zest), vanilla (the seeds), orange (again, just the zest) and spearmint leaves for the glycerine ones.

The common ingredient were the poppy seeds, which I added as the exfoliating factor.

Adorei a experiência e mal posso esperar por fazer mais e quem sabe aventurar-me no campo dos corantes naturais...

I absolutely loved making these and can't wait to make some more and maybe venture into the field of natural dyes...

Cabide para Bijuteria - versão Gigante

Lembram-se deste projecto? É um dos meus favoritos, mas começou a ficar pequeno para os meus colares (e eu não tenho assim tantos...).
Decidi então pegar noutro bocado de madeira que tinha para aqui, um pouco maior, e fazer outro cabide.
Em vez de fotografia, desta vez o tema foi doces... e o resultado foi este! :)


Remember this project? It's one of my favourite, but it became too small for all my necklaces (which are not that many...).
So I decided to take another piece of wood I had, bigger than the first one, and make a new hanger.
Instead of photography, this time the theme was sweets... and here's the result! :)

Rita Reutiliza: Vasos para Cactos

Há algum tempo que não publicava um "Rita Reutiliza".

Andava a precisar de vasos de tamanho médio para uns cactos que estavam a crescer que nem doidos e cujos vasos já estavam pequenos para eles.

Em vez de ir ao IKEA comprar vasos novos, decidi usar os copos das velas de lá que já tinha gasto.

O tamanho era perfeito.

It's been a while since I've done a "Rita Reuses" post.

I'd been needing a couple of new pots for some of my cactuses that had outgrown their small ones.

Instead of heading to IKEA to get some new ones, I decided to use the candle glass holders I had from the same place that had been used and were now empty.

The size was perfect.

 
Lavei os copos e depois usei tinta multi-superfícies e pintei-os para lhes dar outra graça.
Depois foi só transplantar os cactos e voilá!

I washed the candle glass holders and used multi-surface paint to make them more fun.
Then all I had to do was replant the cactuses and ta-dah!

Tasty Treats: Breakfast for Dinner

Quem não gosta de pequeno-almoço para jantar?
Calculei... ninguém!
Hoje, em jeito de me redimir do tempo todo que estive ausente, trago-vos uma receita de panquecas que vai mudar a vossa vida. Confiem em mim.

Para começar, as panquecas ficam altas e muito fofas, em vez de pesadas e massudas, como costuma acontecer.
Para além disso, a farinha que uso é farinha de espelta, que é saudável e não nos deixa tão cheios como a farinha branca que estamos habituados a comer.


Who doesn't like breakfast for dinner?
Thought so... no one!
Today, to redeem myself from this long absence, I bring you a pancake recipe that will change your life. Trust me.

First of all, the pancakes turn out high and really fluffy, instead of heavy as they most times are.
Also, I used spelt flour instead of regular flour. Not only is it healthier, it doesn't make you feel full as plain white flour does.

Vão precisar de:
- 300g de farinha de espelta
- 1 colher de sobremesa de fermento em pó
- 1 colher de sobremesa de bicarbonato de sódio
- 3 colheres de sopa de açúcar
- 2 ovos
- 1 chávena de leite
- 1 colher de sopa de vinagre
- 60g de margarina

Juntem o vinagre ao leite e deixem repousar 10min.
Misturem os ingredientes secos (os 4 primeiros ingredientes da lista acima).

Misturem os ovos com o leite e a margarina.
Adicionem essa mistura aos ingredientes secos.
Deitem um pouco de óleo na frigideira e ponham o lume alto (limpem o excesso com papel de cozinha e usem esse papel para voltar a untar a frigideira quando for necessário).
Façam as vossas panquecas e deliciem-se!


You will need:
- 300g spelt flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp sodium bicarbonate
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tbsp vinegar
- 60g unsalted butter

Add the vinegar and the milk and let it rest for 10min.
Mix the dry ingredients (the first 4 of the list above).
Whisk the eggs and add them to the milk and the butter.
Add that mixture to the dry ingredients.
Pour a bit of oil in the frying pan and turn the heat up high (clean the excess with paper and use it to reoil the pan whenever needed).
Make your pancakes and enjoy them!

Tasty Treats: Saumon Tartare

A pedido de várias famílias, aqui fica a receita de Tártaro de Salmão cuja foto coloquei ontem no meu Instagram.
É simples, deliciosa e uma das minhas mais recentes receitas favoritas.
É óptima para o Verão mas mesmo no Inverno não é um prato que nos deixe com fome.
Mas podem crer que vos vai deixar a pedir por mais!


Tártaro de Salmão (para 2 pessoas)

2 postas salmão
1/2 cebola roxa
2 pickles
cebolinho
1 1/2 colher de chá de maionese
1 1/2 colher de chá de mostarda
1/2 limão
sal e pimenta

1 - Antes de usar, congelar o salmão (para prevenir!) e descongelá-lo durante a noite ou a manhã do dia em que o vão cozinhar
2 - Cortar o salmão em cubinhos muito pequeninos e colocar numa taça
3 - Temperar com sal e pimenta (não é preciso muito sal, a mostarda e a maionese vão ajudar nesse ponto)
4 - Picar o cebolinho, os pickles e a cebola
5 - Misturar tudo com o salmão
6 - Adicionar a mostarda e a maionese
7 - Regar com sumo de meio limão
8 - Servir com batatas fritas

As a result of some requests I received yesterday after posting a picture of a Saumon Tartare on my Instagram, here is the recipe.
It's simple, delicious and one of my new favourite recipes.
It's great for the Summer but even in Wintertime it won't leave you hungry.
But it sure will have you ask for more!


Saumon Tartare (makes 2 servings)

2 cutlets of saumon
1/2 red onion
2 pickles
chives
1 1/2 teaspoon of mayonnaise
1 1/2 teaspoon of mustard
1/2 lemon
salt and pepper

1 - Before you use it, freeze the saumon (to prevent!) and take it out the night before or in the morning of the day you will cook it
2 - Cut the saumon in very small cubes and put it in a bowl
3 - Season with salt and pepper (you don't need to use a lot of salt, as the mayo and the mustard will help you with this)
4 - Finely chop the chives, the pickles and the onion
5 - Add to the saumon and mix it well
6 - Add the mayo and the mustard 
7 - Drizzle with the juice of half a lemon
8 - Serve with some fries

Rita Reutiliza: Suporte para Velas

Este Rita Reutiliza aconteceu por puro acaso.

Acontece que a minha base de eleição deixou de ser vendida em Portugal há uns bons anos.

Foi uma má notícia para mim até ter ido viver para Berlim durante uns meses e ter voltado a encontrá-la... por quase metade do preço!

Escusado será dizer que voltei com um bom fornecimento para Portugal. Bom, mas não o suficiente que me tenha impedido de pedir a amigos e familiares que me trouxessem mais aquando de viagens ao estrangeiro - só não se vende cá, ao que parece!

Assim sendo, possuo vários exemplares do produto e sempre guardei os frascos desta base depois de gasta.

Para além de serem em vidro, achei que seriam óptimos para guardar pequenos tesouros.

No entanto, até agora só me têm servido para recolocar blushes que se partiram (isto acontece-me frequentemente, quem de vós raparigas desse lado do ecrã percebe do que falo?).

Porém, há uns tempos, enquanto lavava um dos frascos, pareceu-me que o tamanho da abertura era exactamente do tamanho de uma daquelas velas brancas pequenas que se vendem em todo o lado.

Fui buscar uma e... ta-dah! -  nem mais.

E foi assim que este projecto "Suporte para Velas" ganhou vida.

Agora, eu podia simplesmente colocar velas nestes frascos e chamar-lhe um projecto reaproveitador fantástico de tão simples que é, mas há que dar o nosso pequeno toque a estas coisas e torná-las mais especiais, certo?

Por isso, pintei o interior das aberturas com uma tinta multi-superfícies dourada e experimentei em duas variantes: numa, pintei só a base; na outra, a base e a parede.

Qual preferem? :)

This Rita Reuses happened by mere chance.

It happens to be that my favourite foundation stopped being sold in Portugal some years ago.

This meant bad news for me until I moved to Berlin for a few months and found it... at almost half the prize!

Naturally, I came back to Portugal with a good supply, although not good enough to keep me from asking friends and family to bring me some more when they travelled abroad - apparently it's sold everywhere except for Portugal!

Because of this, I own several empty jars that I kept after finishing the foundation.

Not only are they made of glass, I thought they would be great to keep little treasures.

Even so, up until now, I've only used them to store broken blushes (this happens to me often - who of you girls on the other side of the screen know what I'm talking about?).

However, a while ago, while I was washing one of the jars, it seemed to me that I could probably fit a simple small white candle in them.

I went to get one and... ta-dah!, it fit perfectly.

And that's how this "Candle Holder" project came to be.

Now, I could just have fit some candles in the jars and called it a fantastic reusing project for being so simple, but you have to put your twist into these things to make them more special, right?

So, I painted the inside of the jars with a golden multi-surface paint and tried it in two different ways: on the first one, I just painted the bottom; on the other, I did the bottom and the wall.

Which do you prefer? :)
