Weekly Works: Watercolours, Fabric and Plants

Já não me lembro da última vez que pintei com aguarelas.

Não que esteja a usar aguarelas, mas antes lápis aguareláveis.

Comprei-os há anos e anos e faltam algumas cores (nomeadamente os cinzentos, que dão um jeitaço!), mas continuo a adorar usá-los.

Nos intervalos das aguarelas, rodeio-me de feltros e tecidos lindos.

Entretanto, parece que o escritório é o lugar de eleição das orquídeas.

E, do lado de fora do escritório, a minha cerejeira continua linda! Será que para o ano dá flor? ;)

I can't remember the last time I painted with watercolours.

Not that I'm using watercolours, but rather watercolour pencils.

I bought them years and years ago and some colours are missing (the greys, for example, which come in very handy!), but I still love using them.

When I take breaks from watercolouring, I surround myself with felt and gorgeous fabrics.

In the meantime, it looks like the office is the orchids' favourite place.

And outside my office, my cherry tree is looking so pretty! Will it be blossoming next year? ;)

Weekly Works: Nesting

 

... que é como quem diz "fazer o ninho".

Nas fotos:
- um pequeno enfeite muito rápido de corações origami e fio de tricot que agora paira sobre o meu cantinho preferido do escritório ♥
- fotos, muitas fotos! Supostamente seriam para encher álbuns de fotografias (tenho uns tão bonitos e vazios...), mas tenho o problema de achar que o lugar destas recordações e momentos especiais é bem à vista, nas paredes da casa...
- 3 cactos pequenos que vieram fazer companhia às orquídeas que, já agora, estão lindas e viçosas!

- pictures, lots of them! They were supposed to be filling some photo albums (I have such nice and empty ones...), but I have the problem of thinking that such lovely memories and special moments should be well seen, on the walls throughout the house...
- 3 little cacti that have joined the orchids who, by the way, look gorgeous and exuberant!

Weekly Works: finding balance

Há dias em que é difícil trabalhar.
Esta semana foi complicado levantar-me porque sabia que o que me esperava era um dia em frente ao computador a trabalhar até às tantas. E que o dia seguinte também ia ser assim. E o dia a seguir a esse também.
A primeira semana do ano foi igual e custou bastante...
Mas não me posso queixar.

Apenas há dias em que é difícil trabalhar.
Mesmo quando há vontade, podemos sempre dar por nós a trabalhar nas pontas dos pés (das mãos?), a tentar evitar incomodar o gato que temos à nossa frente a aproveitar o nosso calor e o gato que temos ao lado do PC a aproveitar o calor que dele sai e cuja cabeça está apoiada em várias teclas ao mesmo tempo.


Some days it's hard to work.
This week I found it hard to get up knowing I had a very long day of work ahead of me. And that the next day would be the same. And the day after, too.
The first week of the year was just as full of work and it was very hard to deal with it...
But I really can't complain.

It's just that some days it's hard to work.
Even when there's the will, I can always find myself working on the tip of my toes (fingers?), trying not to disturbe the cat in front of me enjoying my body heat and the cat on the side of the laptop enjoying the heat coming from it and whose head rests on several keys.

Claro que com companhias assim é mais fácil enfrentar dias e noites de trabalho sem fim.
Especialmente se tivermos em mente que no fim do dia nos espera uma dose generosa de mimo... ♥

Of course it's easier to face working days and nights with such great company.
Especially if you bare in mind that at the end of the day you get to enjoy a generous amount of cuddling... ♥

Weekly Works: Wood

Comecei esta semana a lixar várias tábuas de pinho. Tinha mandado cortar nos tamanhos que precisava para um dos meus recentes projectos e só era preciso lixar algumas arestas antes de poder começar a construir tudo.

Perdi a voz no primeiro dia, graças à quantidade de pó que inspirei - erro de amadora -, pelo que ao fim da tarde fui comprar máscaras, óculos e luvas. O dia seguinte já foi bem diferente, já que pude lixar à vontade sem me preocupar com o pó.

Infelizmente, uma das peças veio com a largura errada, por isso tive de a cortar e voltar a lixar. O namorado ajudou e conseguimos dar conta do recado bastante bem :)

I started off this week sanding a bunch of pine wood boards. I had had them cut in the sizes I needed for one of my newest projects and all they needed was some minor sanding before I was able to start to put them together.

Lost my voice in the first day, due to the amount of dust I inhaled. Not wise. So later that afternoon I bought a mask, a pair of glasses and gloves. The next day was quite different as I was able to sand away without any worries.

Unfortunately, one of the pieces came back with the wrong width, so I had to cut it right and sand it. Luckily, my boyfriend helped me out and we were able to fix it rather well :)

Depois disso, era altura de começar a colar tudo. Apoderei-me do quarto vazio (depois de me ter apoderado do escritório, era apenas o passo seguinte natural...) e comecei aos poucos. Está quase pronto por agora e depois disso é tempo de lixar de novo (para nivelar tudo) e aplicar óleo. Mal posso esperar pelo resultado final! Definitivamente, não está perfeito, mas estou a adorar construir este protótipo.

After that, it was time to start glueing the pieces together. I took over the spare room (after the office, it was only natural to move on to that one...) and started little by little. It's almost done by now and after that it's time for some more sanding (to make the whole thing more even) and then apply some oil. Can't wait to see the end result! It's definitely not perfect for now but I am loving making this prototype.
